If you browse to your 7 Days to Die folder and open /config/worlds/<your world name>/prefabs.xml in a text editor you can search for the word "trader" and you'll get five hits, one for each trader.

Finish that an you will get tier 2 missions from that trader. so forward and back and youre good. This is how I use trader. 1) Sell the extra clothing/weapon/tool. 2) Buy early iron tools. Mods are relatively cheap (and cost many glue to craft) so I get them from traders, sometimes in advance. Get Tool & Die Set from traders as well. Before I have my mining perks, bought some coal/gunpowder so I can craft ammo.
