I called out on Easter (I had prior plans and my request off was denied beforehand so), and I put in PPTO a day later for the hours I was scheduled…Ok, so I have to rescind my original comment. I was wrong, and I wasn't aware that the policy changed. After doing some digging, y'all who were saying you can use PPTO on a key date were right. You don't have to use 16 hours though, just enough to cover the shift if you have it available. Previously, as long as you worked at least one of the event dates and had no unauthorized absences on any of the other dates then you’d qualify for the extra discount as absences that are covered with PPTO correctly as treated as an approved absence.

If you use PPTO to cover half the shift, then you’ll only receive half a point. Ppto works the same every day of the year. Key event dates are designed to punish employees who call out and do not use any ppto. Everything else is the same. If u use 8hrs u get 0 points. I know that for sure because I’ve done it. Now I don’t know if u get any if u use less than the full 8. Steps for using PPTO: Call in. Miss shift. Submit request the day after so it auto approves (you have 7 days). Don't submit it before shift...it will be treated like a regular PTO request and can be denied! And do not use it to request days off.
