In the past, JMU has frequently accepted only the top Virginia applicants in the early action round (and some out of state too), and deferred a ton to regular. But it seems many of those deferred get in later. So if you get a deferral, don’t lose hope.

Early action always. If you’re a solid candidate you’ll either be accepted or pushed to regular decision round. If they flat out reject you then they would have done the same regular decision round.
