We're installing a convertible top for a fellow Sambanista and. would like to illustrate some of the steps here in the Ghia Forum. His 1970 Ghia arrived here with the convertible framework and wood bows already installed and in good shape.

Even raised you may have to trim the fiberglass in places. Then you never tried 700 15 Yokos front and 31 x10.50 rear tires they roll over terrain that 27" tires fall in. It is like adding 2 more inches of soft travel. Much nicer ride. 33x9.50 and 33x12.50 make the 700 15 and 31x10.50 tires seem like stock tires.
