I looked at my instrument panel and I had the "Electronic Throttle Control" indicator light on. I turned the ignition and started her back up and the RPM revved up to 1500 and stayed there; it would not come down. In any case, if you want to test to see if the back wheels engage when the 4x4 switch is pulled, you could try running it while up on a lift or jack stands. The driveshaft to the rear should be turning, but the rear wheels shouldn't be engaged until the switch is pulled and the 4x4 light is on. .It was common for the wires to corrode & cause a break in one of the wires. When that happens, the 4WD! Light would go on. That is normal. This is actually a good way to see if the system is in the "ready" state if you disconnect your battery to clear a code. If you turn the key to "On", the CEL will blink several times. If the light goes out, or stays solid, the system is "Ready". In other words, it has completed a "Drive Cycle" and can be tested for Emmisions etc.
