I can go threw R,1,2 both upshift/downshift with ease but as soon as I get into 3rd it will display I'm in 3rd temporarily and then the "dash" on the gear indicator will appear and I cannot upshift, or downshift. There is a shift clutch adjustment you can check, (search for service manual) but if that doesn't fix it you will need to crack the case to see what's going on in there.
