My 8440 is about 200 hp and pulls most things ok but is a little underpowered in some operations. Only farming about 500 acres right now with a full time job, but would like to start growing a little bit. Tractor has just over 10,000 hrs and less than a 1,000 on engine o/h and clutch rebuild. I ran a 8630 with a 1850 there was never any hydraulic problems. Those 30,40,50 series tractors are just junk. I put a transmission, axle bearings and hydraulic pump in my 8630. Only owned it 2 years. Please do yourself a favor buy a 9170, 9180 CIH, 976, 946 Versatile,9680 9682 NH, 60 or 70 Deere. Anything but those 30'40'50 Deeres.

I'm wondering if the valves need to be set. They both have around 6000 hours on them. The 8440 is hard to turn over and even hard to start when plugged in. The 4430 starts easily if plugged in for a while. Thanks for any information.
