On the other hand, moderated forums do work well, because the lower traffic, the absence of a sales focus, and the active presence of moderators makes posting some kind of garbage a losing proposition. I think of Cloudy Nights Forums as kind of an astronomy mall, anchored on one end by the Astronomics Store, and the Classifieds as a used astronomy equipment dealer with a rental program on the other end.
