OK, I've been reading other posts for a while about P3191 and have tried quite a few things, but no posts that I have read quite match my situation, so here it goes: I bought this 4-door sedan 2001 Prius with about 119K miles, that had a blown head gasket. Had no belt at the time, and was a steal for $1200 so I decided it would be fun to fix on.
I have twice had the check engine lights come on, and the car ('01 Prius) slow down enormously. It kept going, but at maybe 10 mph with the gas pedal floored. After a day of sitting, the lights and the failure to respond both go away. I had the codes read and was told P3191 was the incriminating number, but no idea what the problem was.Oct 3, 2013 · Touring. Jan 25, 2022 · Thanks! (from a demoralized Prius owner..) PS1: I'm hoping to keep my Prius for another 2-3 years. We do about 5-8 k miles max per year now. As other old Prius, it drinks oil but it is manageable (one quarter between the 6-month interval oil change). I cleaned out my EGR system today & after putting everything back together & starting my car it had a very rough idle & died a 20 seconds later or so.
