Kirkwood is the best skiing in the area IMHO. It is remote though. Flying into Reno is your best bet but Sacramento is not too bad if you're able to get a good flight deal. For advanced skiers squaw, kirkwood or mammoth (not really tahoe) are the way to go.

To be frank, it's nearly impossible to fish tahoe without one. Assuming you're after macinaw, the charters will troll with flashers and corn. The fish are deep, often a couple hundred feet. There is some good shore and boat fishing out by cave rock.
