Oct 27, 2011 · Monotubs with polyfil don't really need a whole lot of extra FAE. But even I fan it every now and then. Check the sides of the tub for water collecting. If it doesn't look like it is humid enough in there, spray some water. Remember to be patient. Here is a pic of a nice pinset with low FAE. Don't worry, if it colonized, it is GOING to fruit.

Simply twisting/pulling tears up the substrate badly . After my first tub the substrate looked like a yard that had 1000 gophers in it. I ended up having to pull the substrate that was attached to the base of my mushrooms and press it back in as an attempt to fill all of the holes.

Try a 1:2 or a 1:1 ratio next time. BTW six 1/2 pints of spawn = 3 pints of spawn so for a 1:2 you'd want 3 pints spawn to 6 quarts bulk substrate (but that's all depending on size of tub/tray and how deep you want your substrate to be too). I mixed it at about 1:4, there's maybe 3 inches of sub in my tub.
